On Nov. 13, 2012, Massachusetts announced a statewide goal of producing 10,000 multifamily units in the Commonwealth each year. This initiative was prompted by a lack of affordable housing and the escalating cost of housing in the Commonwealth; issues which the nine communities in the Northern Middlesex region experience firsthand.
In an effort to address the needs of individual communities and develop strategies for affordable housing implementation, NMCOG assists its communities in developing Housing Production Plans. Each plan contains a detailed comprehensive needs assessment, affordable housing goals and strategies, and an implementation plan.
