Draft Northern Middlesex Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan
Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan Update Powerpoint Presentation
The
Northern Middlesex region is susceptible to many types of natural
hazards including floods, severe thunderstorms, winter storms,
tornadoes, earthquakes, and hurricanes. The economic cost of these
types of disasters can be staggering. In addition, such disasters can
bring social and emotional devastation to our communities. A
Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan outlines actions that can be taken now to
reduce the impact of these natural disasters when and if they occur
later. Pre-Disaster mitigation breaks the costly cycle of recurrent
damage and increasing reconstruction costs. The
Northern Middlesex Council of Governments is currently developing and update
to the regional multi-hazard mitigation plan
encompassing the communities of Billerica, Chelmsford, Dracut, Dunstable, Lowell, Pepperell, Tewksbury, Tyngsborough and Westford.
This Regional Pre-Disaster Mitigation Plan (PDM) update is being prepared in
accordance with the federal Disaster Mitigation Act (DMA) of 2000. The
purpose of the Plan is to mitigate potential damage from natural
hazards, before it occurs, for those hazards deemed to be a threat to
the Northern Middlesex region. Documents currently available:
